Why did I start this newsletter?
Because I have a lot of thoughts which don’t get a platform. And even if I try to make a thread out of them, these are topics which people might never relate to. But there has to be a platform for such exclusive topics. Subscribe if you want them in your feed every week:
And now, the story…
I tweeted this day before yesterday…
And I got a comment…
and it made me think…
This happens because only a few people are actually intentional about their time and decisions. 90% of everybody’s time and decisions are run by conventions.
I'm not saying it's wrong to function according to conventions, I just think it's wrong to not have the power or the will to choose.
Here’s a simple example: I'm 22 and I still consider myself a kid. I still go out with my parents and I always will.
A lot of people my age buy conventional ideas like “this is my age to go out only with my friends or my girlfriend, go on solo trips, blah blah”
My idea is different. I understand some people might not be having a good relationship with their parents, but fortunately I do.
So, I'm not going to change my relationship with them just because it's my age to do what the society asks from me.
This particular case might be age based and culture driven, but there are tons and tons of conventions out there.
Our life is too short to be following all of them, and yet most of us are. Atleast until life gives us a tight slap…and that makes us think.
A lot of people think that since I’m just 22, all these “life gyaans” are out of some book. I never read a book on life or philosophy or psychology. I would love to in the future, so suggest some:
Even I got a tight slap from life and all these thoughts come from that place.
Play your game and intentionally choose how you want to live your life.
Now you know why you should be intentional, it’s time for how:
The how part is the toughest to explain for me right now because even I’m building it.
I’ll keep you updated, but it mainly boils down to this:
Trying to stop. Try to stop and think a lot more times. I really want to be conscious about what I do.
I’ve never been directly driven by others, only been inspired by them. This is not the good kind of inspiration. I’ve been inspired to be like certain people and everything in this operation was run by envy.
I’ve been influenced by the idea of “not being an outcast”. I never wanted to be so different, that everyone just derails me from their life and groups.
Now, I have control over all of that.
I acknowledged those feelings and understood them deeply. Understood the fundamental drive. Understood their root cause and tried fixing it from there, if and only if it required fixing.
Honestly, for me it happened automatically as I started thinking more. And recently I started being more intentional about almost everything I do, except things where I didn’t want to kill my fun.
I’m just trying to be more deliberate with things. Like I know and control more of my actions now. I guess this is called second order thinking…don’t know for sure. Correct me please.
I think I’ve become better in a lot more areas just by practising this in everything.
Taking decisions more deliberately and not because of conventions can help you live a better life, build a better startup (helped me a lot) and find more time for many more important things which you ignore.
That’s it for today. Hit me up in the comments if you want to discuss this in detail.
